This document provides an overview of efforts taken to build flood resilience in Colombo, Sri Lanka and makes the case for urban wetlands management as viable approach for flood protection and other benefits.

It provides key lessons learned, namely in the need to clearly identify and measure the additional non-flood related benefits of wetlands management, such as heat reduction and waste water treatment. It also recommends the use of the Robust Decision Making methodology to handle uncertainty and support decision-making.
