Jeni Burnell and David Sanderson from the Centre for Development and Emergency Practice (CENDEP, Oxford Brookes University) guest edited a special issue on shelter after disaster for Environmental Hazards: Human and Policy Dimensions journal. The attached paper is the editorial for this publication. Other papers within the special issue include a retrospective piece by Ian Davis entitled 'What have we learned from 40 years' experience of disaster shelter?'. Topics also explored scaling up community-driven reconstruction programmes, understanding if there is a human right to shelter and investigating issues of disability and public shelter in emergencies.
